Charlestown is a small fishing village on the South Cornwall coast in England. It is located just a couple of miles from St Austell and is near to Trethurgy, St Mewan, St Blaise, and Pentewan (and is one of 258 towns or villages in Cornwall in which Go2 has cottages or holidays lets available). The nearest main cities are Truro (population 20,920) and Plymouth (population 243,795).
Charlestown continues to be used for fishing, from its harbour, and because of its traditional 'Cornish fishing village' appearance and delightful 'Olde Worlde' character has formed the location for the filming of a number of films and television programmes including Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland and also the BBC's Dr Who series.
Easily accessible by road, with train access via nearby St Austell, Charlestown represents an excellent location to stay for exploring South East Cornwall.
