Lower Hyde, set on the edge of Shanklin, is perfectly situated for exploring the numerous delights the Isle of Wight has to offer.
The park boasts a superb range of facilities. You can splash about in the fabulous heated outdoor pool, relax in the indoor spa pool, throw yourself into a host of activities on the all weather multi sports court or challenge the family to a game of pool. There’s plenty to keep the kids happy, with their own children’s club and teenagers will have the chance to meet new friends and take new challenges.
Brand new for 2014, the Barnhouse Bar and Restaurant provide great ways to start the evening before enjoying the entertainment on offer in the Showbar.
Together with the superb range of facilities on the park, you also enjoy use of the facilities at Landguard Holiday Park (p183), 1 mile away, including indoor and outdoor pools, the Granary Restaurant and family entertainment.
Due to steep gradients and steps Lower Hyde is not suitable for wheelchair users or persons with severe mobility difficulties.

Situated on the south-east coast of the Isle Of Wight, in Sandown Bay, the pretty town of Shanklin is a popular location for family holidays. It is famed for its good weather and has two safe, sandy beaches - Small Hope Beach and Hope Beach - which are sheltered from the wind by the spectacular backdrop of Dunnose Point. There are many traditional seaside attractions including an amusement arcade, crazy golf, a putting green, beach huts and a children’s play area, as well as several cafes, restaurants and pubs. A cliff lift provides easy access to the cliff tops, where the views are particularly stunning. During the summer months a small road train provides a regular service to the town centre and Old Village.
The town centre has two main supermarkets, arts and crafts shops, clothing and sports shops, and some newsagents and bakeries, as well as gift shops and restaurants.
Shanklin’s Old Village is delightful, with thatched cottages, quaint shops and old-fashioned tea-rooms. It is also home to the renowned Shanklin Chine, a deep, wooded coastal ravine carved out by a stream. This beautiful and picturesque place features waterfalls and a nature trail, a Heritage Centre, a tea garden and gift shop. One of the displays showcases a small section of the pipe of the “Operation Pluto” pipeline used to supply fuel to the D-Day beaches. In the evenings the waterfalls and woodland are illuminated.
Shanklin is well-placed for exploring the rest of the Isle of Wight, and attractions within easy reach include the Isle of Wight Donkey Sanctuary, the Amazon World Zoo, the Isle of Wight Zoo, Blackgang Chine, and the Robin Hill Adventure Park and Gardens. The town is well-served by the railway, which connects to the ferry terminal at Ryde Pier, allowing easy access to the mainland and London. Regular bus services are also provided.
