Sparrows Nest

Description

Sparrow's Nest is a 400 year old Cornish cottage that has been extended and renovated to provide most mod cons yet keeps its rustic charm. It's ideal for couples seeking a romantic getaway or for a family with one or two small children, a travel cot and high chair are available on request. Located on the edge of the coastal village of St.Agnes it benefits from a quiet location but it is easy walking distance to all village amenities which include four pubs, wine bar, greengrocers, butchers, bakers, newsagents, hairdressers, post office and kids play park. 'No4' restaurant is simply delicious! In addition St.Agnes boasts three lovely beaches. It is possible to walk to the closest beach passing several eating places en route! More beaches are just a five minute drive away including the excellent surfing beaches of Porthtowan and Perranporth. The local coastline is stunning and ideal for walkers. In late September dolphins, seals and occasionally a whale may be spotted if you are lucky! The city of Truro is fifteen minutes away. There are also numerous National Trust properties to visit plus the amazing Eden Project. The cottage consists of a sizable upstairs open plan double bedroom with mezzanine storage loft, plenty of draw and hanging space and exposed oak beams. A velux window adds brightness to this room and the small cottage bedroom window looks out onto a hedge-full of rather busy sparrows! Downstairs the sitting room benefits from the two foot thick 'cob' walls which keep it cool in the summer, it has low-ish beamed ceilings so those of a higher than average stature may wish to bring a plaster or two! There is plenty comfy seating, a 'Clearview' wood burner and many books and games for both adults and young children. The downstairs bedroom is suitable for a child/teenager and has 'Z bed' for a second child if required. The bathroom has a bath with over head electric shower, loo and antique style sink, slate floor, wood paneling. The kitchen has most of the items one would expect and has plenty of cupboard space. It has a large fridge, separate freezer and a modern gas cooker. There's a substantial wooden table with four chairs. It is spacious, bright and airy. French doors lead out to the garden area. The garden is a suntrap and has two large 'throne' chairs that are most alluring! There is also a picnic table and barbecue. A whirrly type washing line is on a separate section of the garden that can be easily erected when required. With the outside fairy lights twinkling it is a very enchanting setting for a summer barbecue on a warm summer's evening. The cottage has an 'artistic' and 'rustic' feel, many say it has a relaxing influence and although modernized many original features remain. St.Agnes itself is a welcoming community. Safe parking is available on the road adjacent to the cottage. A small footpath leads up to the cottage garden. Many guest are now 'regulars'. Arrivals from 5pm on Fridays.

North Cornwall

Wilder and more rugged than the south of the county, North Cornwall is a land of tall headlands, sandy beaches and empty moorland – yours to explore from one of our holiday cottages in North Cornwall. The busy resort of Newquay is a major attraction, with its glorious beaches and fantastic conditions for surfers. Nearby Perranporth also boasts some fantastic beaches, perfect for sun-lovers. You’ll find many more lovely beaches, like those at Bude for example, waiting for you on one of our North Cornwall cottage holidays. This part of Cornwall has become a bit of a mecca for food lovers too. Rick Stein has put Padstow on the map and more chefs, including Jamie Oliver, are joining him, attracted by the quality of the ingredients available locally. Then there is St. Ives, long a haunt of artists drawn here by the wonderful light and inspiring scenery. A cottage holiday in North Cornwall puts you in touch with history from ancient celtic times to the days of the smugglers. Tintagel Castle, rumoured to be the birthplace of King Arthur, sits high on a cliff and still has a strange air of mystery about it.

South Cornwall

Wonderful scenery, a mild climate, sparkling blue seas and charming seaside villages make South Cornwall a firm favourite for cottage holidays whatever the season. And we have a fabulous choice of holiday cottages in South Cornwall from which to make the most of this lovely part of the country. The Cornish Riviera takes in some of South Cornwall’s most popular resorts and many of our holiday cottages in South Cornwall are located nearby. Picturesque Fowey is a haven for sailors, while the Roseland Peninsula is a noted beauty spot. Mevagissey, St. Mawes and St. Just are all well worth a visit. Not to be missed is the Eden Project, a fascinating recreation of different biospheres, featuring a wide variety of exotic plantlife. You should also make time for a trip to atmospheric St. Michael’s Mount and on to Land’s End, the most westerly point in England. The county town of Truro has a lovely cathedral and some excellent shopping opportunities, while Penzance is a bustling resort, famed for its warm weather and sub-tropical plants. And do make sure you sample the pasties, saffron cake and clotted cream – all local delicacies, – during your cottage holiday.
