Description

This character 18th century farmhouse renovation has been divided into three holiday cottages with many original features such as exposed stone walls, sandstone lintels over the feature fireplaces with wood burning stoves and fabulous beams made from wood retrieved from shipwrecks on the nearby sandy beaches 300 years ago. The beach is a 10 minute walk and there are many other walks and superb views across the Western Lake District and seaward to the Isle of Man on a clear day. Nearby Muncaster Castle has an internationally renowned owl breeding centre and is an excellent family day out, also the Ravenglass to Eskdale miniature steam railway offers the opportunity to disembark along the route and walk the dale. A 6 mile walk past Santon Bridge takes hikers to Wastwater with its magnificent views of the Langdales. It’s the magnificent scenery that attracts so many holidaymakers to the Lake District. And you’ll find our holiday cottages in Cumbria and the Lakes are perfectly located to make the most of what is arguably the most beautiful region in England.

The Lake District National Park features stunning scenery of high fells and majestic lakes. This is ideal walking country, particularly over the many hills. The Lake District has the highest hills in England, including Scafell Pike, the country’s highest point. And of course there are the lakes themselves: glorious Windermere, pretty Derwent Water and beautiful Ullswater are just some of the highlights of our Cumbria and the Lakes cottage holidays.

For the historically minded, Cumbria offers a wealth of Celtic monuments, Roman remains, stately homes and ruined abbeys. Carlisle still has some of its ancient walls standing, as well as a Norman castle, and the western part of Hadrian’s Wall is nearby. Other places of interest include Penrith, with its castle and remarkably unchanged market square; Keswick, which was once the centre of pencil manufacturing; the busy market town of Kendal and Cockermouth, Wordsworth’s birthplace
