A short drive to the New Forest with its famous wild ponies, or head for the Purbecks and enjoy coastal walks and pretty villages. Shops and pubs within 350 yards. With a temperate climate due to its location on the south coast of England (between Poole to the west and Southampton to the east), this large, bustling coastal resort is renowned for its seven miles of sandy beaches, headed by the iconic Bournemouth Pier. Beach huts, deck chairs and other equipment can all be hired, and watersports abound. In fact the town claims to have one of England’s safest beaches, with a strong RNLI presence along the seafront. This stretch of coastline is also the ideal host for the Bournemouth Air Festival - a free, annual event offering four days of flying displays and entertainment.
Away from the beach there is no shortage of things to do - shops, restaurants, clubs, and other entertainment and leisure attractions abound. There are around 200 listed buildings, including St Peters Church, where the author Mary Shelley is buried. Key landmarks include the Bournemouth International Centre, Pavilion Theatre and O2 Academy, as well as the famous Park and Gardens, with its bandstand, aviary and Pinewalk Art Exhibition. Further afield the beautiful Purbeck Hills and New Forest offer further opportunities for exploration.
