Sprakes offers a relaxing retreat with complete peace and tranquillity with no other building in sight and surrounded by fields which form part of a large arable farm. This substantial detached barn conversion sits in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and the site of an RSPB special bird project where many birds of high conservation concern have been spotted including linnet, a large population of corn buntings, grey partridge and yellow hammers. The barn conversion offers a west facing garden with a large pond which has many wildlife visitors including deer and badgers, there is a night vision camera so guests can see what arrives after dark. Iin addition, there is a walled enclosed courtyard with a Spanish-style barbecue. Within the farm there are the remains of a Roman villa and the longest long barrow in the south west of England. Sprakes is nestled in the Tarrant Valley, making a good base for walking, cycling or just relaxing in the Dorset countryside. The nearby footpaths join up with the Jubilee Trail.
There are many NT properties, gardens and historic sights including Kingston Lacy House, Stourhead Gardens and Brownsea Island all within a short drive. Within a 30-minute drive lies the wonderful Dorset coastline, with the Blue Flag beaches of Bournemouth and Poole, the Purbeck Hills and the pretty villages of Corfe Castle and Lulworth Cove. Bournemouth is renowned for its clean sandy beach and boasts several public gardens, the best known of which is Compton Acres. The Jurassic and Heritage coastline takes in the port of Weymouth and the lovely village of Abbotsbury with its famous swannery and sub tropical gardens. Along the coast is the famous pebbled Chesil Beach which runs for 18 miles along the coastline. The local Georgian town of Blandford Forum has a range of independent shops waiting to be explored and the cathedral city of Salisbury is a 30-minute drive away. A well stocked farm shop is an easy 20-minute walk along the lanes and there are local pubs with restaurants from 1½ miles away. Shop 1 mile, pub miles.

With a wide and varied selection of cottages and holiday lets in Dorset Go2 offers you the ideal way to make the most of your break in this beautiful and largely unspoilt county, where there’s something for everyone to enjoy.

Dorset’s Jurassic Coast is a World Heritage Site, with dramatic coves and stunning cliffs, topped by the South West Coast Path, which offers some wonderful views. Here you’ll find characterful seaside towns like Swanage and Lyme Regis as well as the wide sweep of Weymouth Beach. If you’re looking for somewhere more lively, then Bournemouth won’t disappoint. This is one of Britain’s most popular resorts and has attractions and entertainments in abundance. Nearby Poole is quieter, but still has much to offer. Try and make the trip to Brownsea Island, a fabulous nature reserve here. Inland on your holiday in Dorset you can enjoy the rolling hills that are so characteristic of the county and explore what has become known as “Thomas Hardy Country”.

The county town of Dorchester, with its High Street lined with 17th and 18th Century houses, is little changed from Hardy’s day, while the pretty town of Shaftesbury has been used as a location in countless films set in Olde England.
