No 3 Kent Place

Lechlade is superbly situated for access to the Cotswolds, Cirencester, Cheltenham and Oxford. It is well known for being the highest navigable point of the Thames. It is a village strongly associated with the river historically, for the salt and wool trades and now for rowing boats and other river craft. As well as fascinating antique and speciality shops, there is an appealing Garden Centre, a good butchers/greengrocers as well as a supermarket, Post Office and chemist. Of the old Church and chuchyard Shelley wrote his poem:"A Summer Evening Churchyard, Lechlade, Gloucestershire" The lovely cotswold town of Burford, is just seven miles to the North and there are many other pretty villages close by sporting attractive pubs and wonderful scenery. Nearby attractions include: Cheltenham race week in March and Badminton horsetrials in May; for plane enthusiasts, nearby Fairford's annual International Ait Tattoo is in July. William Morris's museum in Kelmscott Manor is open every Wednesday in Summer. Many other fine houses and gardens of historic and modern interest abound. Lechlade Manor formed part of the estate of Catherine of Aragon. Isenbard Brunel's Great Western Line had its railway works and now a railway museum in nearby Swindon which also boasts a retail outlet, a cinema complex, icerink and a swimming pool leisure centre. Peacefully set at the end of a short footpath and hidden away from the road and passers-by is this old Cotswold stone cottage, part of which is thought to date back to the 1500s: it is in a conservation area in the heart of this historic village. Onstreet parking is readily availble 30 yards from the cottage door. Conveniently within 200 yards of the village shops, pubs, restaurants and the river and there are picturesque walks from the cottage by the riverside and to the nearby wildlife reserve. Nearby in the Cotswolds there are many more attractions: good pubs Wildlife Park, This old semi-detached cottage retains many attractive original features and has a delightful south-facing garden: a peaceful retreat. Our holiday cottages in Gloucestershire are ideally located for exploring the famous Cotswolds and Gloucestershire is also blessed with the Forest of Dean, one of our ancient woodlands. But there is much more to see in this county that is so rich in history.

The city of Gloucester, for example, is where William the Conqueror ordered the creation of the Domesday Book and the magnificent cathedral here has many connections with the Norman kings of England. With our Gloucestershire cottage holidays, you’re just a short drive away. Make sure Berkeley Castle is also on your itinerary. This 12th century castle has been owned by the Berkeley family since its foundation and is now a fine stately home, packed with art treasures, tapestries, silver, porcelain and furniture.

Then there’s elegant, genteel Cheltenham, with its grand terraces, much frequented by the lords and ladies of Georgian times and now home to some very smart shops. Or step back in time to Tewkesbury, where timbered buildings sit crowded on the banks of the rivers Avon and Severn. And don’t miss bohemian Stroud, where you’ll find a great selection of cafés and pubs.
