Water Meadow Cottage

This pretty cottage is Grade II listed with a newer extension offering family sized accommodation. There are two double bedrooms and one twin bedroom. With a new bath and shower room upstairs and a second toilet / sink downstairs. The light, airy layout includes a large kitchen and a large cosy living room with wood & coal burning stove. To the back of the cottage is a long lawned garden with fruit trees and lots of wild flowers. It is fenced and safe for children and looks out onto the water meadows. To the front is another lawned garden and ample parking on the gravel drive. The cottage is one of three converted from this 16th century farmhouse, many years ago. There are beautiful oak beams in the original rooms. Surrounded by fields on three sides, the cottage is ideal for a family with children and for nature lovers. You may well glimpse the beautiful white barn owl around the water meadow at the bottom of the garden where you will also see some beautiful Suffolk horses. There are short, medium and long walks - for all sizes and ages of legs - right from the door. At night, there's no local light pollution and the sky is often amazingly starry. Even in winter, with the gorgeous East Anglia light, far-reaching views together with the smell of woodsmoke, make it a perfect getaway. In a small hamlet, it's a very quiet location. A car is recommended and there's plenty of room to park on the drive. Bicycles are handy. The nearest pub is a 20 minute walk across countryside. You can go by pony & trap in Summer! 5 minutes drive away is the pretty market town of Saxmundham which has a Waitrose. Saxmundham is 2 hours by train from London Liverpool Street Station. The Suffolk coast is 15 minutes drive: Aldeburgh, Orford, Dunwich all in easy reach. Snape Maltings. World famous music venue: RSPB Minsmere. Bird-watching: River trips: Golf: & Boating: Sutton Hoo: WW2 Air Museum: Dunwich: Farm Park: Cinema: Southwold: Food & drink: The Alde Valley is known locally as a particularly special area. Fantastic produce is available all around: fresh eggs, fish, meat and veg from nearby places including Friday Street Farm Shop. We leave basic groceries for people to use and replace to save you starting your stay with a massive shop! We now have a Full-HD Smart TV w/ Freesat and Blu-Ray, a growing Blu-ray and DVD collection, WiFi and 50 Penguin Classics on the bookshelf! Good for cosy nights, rainy days. This beautiful county is situated to the south of Norfolk, with Cambridgeshire to the west, Essex to the south, and the North Sea to the east. It has much to offer the visitor, including the wetlands of the Broads, the Wool Towns, and a coastal strip to the east known as “The Sandlings”. There are over 5000km of marked paths as well as national cycle routes, along with country parks, nature reserves such as the Trimley Marshes, and picnic sites.

Suffolk’s notable towns include Ipswich (the county town), Felixstowe, Lowestoft, Bury St Edmunds and Newmarket.

West Suffolk is famed for its archaeological discoveries, especially that at Sutton Hoo in 1939. A grassy mound was found to be a ship burial ground containing a collection of Anglo-Saxon treasures, including a Sword of State, a shield, a helmet, gold and silver bowls, jewellery and a lyre. The site is now owned by the National Trust.
