Dinton Mill

Description

The mill and the adjoining cottage, occupied by the estate gamekeeper and water keeper, lie at the end of a private stone surfaced track which crosses water meadows. The delightful stone building is situated on a working farm and lies adjacent to the mill pond and river, and is surrounded by trees and grassed areas. It has been refurbished to a very high standard, and is spread over three floors. The first floor living area benefits from a large stone fireplace and sliding doors leading out to a small balconied seating area overlooking the mill pond. The area around the mill is rich in both wildlife and plant life and offers ideal opportunities for walking, painting and enjoying a quieter, more relaxed pace of life. Dry fly trout fishing is available on site, on request by prior arrangement. The holiday property enjoys a secluded location on the fringe of the hamlet of Dinton, yet has easy access to the attractions and beautiful scenery of this part of Wiltshire: the market town of Wilton and Wilton House, home of the Earl of Pembroke for almost 500 years; the historical city of Salisbury with its magnificent church spire; the legendary neolithic stones at Stonehenge; the gardens at Stourhead (NT); the safari park and stately home at Longleat; the picturesque towns and villages winding through the Wylye Valley. Shop 5 miles, pub 2 miles.

Discover the quiet charms of Wiltshire’s rolling hills and wide valleys during a break in one of our great choice of holiday cottages in Wiltshire. Much of the county is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and it’s ideal for walkers. Cyclists are particularly welcome on the quiet country lanes and designated cycle paths.

There are so many wonderful places to visit in this historic county from ancient druid monuments to magnificent stately homes, fabulous gardens and glorious Georgian towns. All are within easy reach of our holiday cottages in Wiltshire. Stonehenge is one of the world’s great wonders, truly deserving its must-see status but the stone circle at Avebury is just as mysterious. There is also Longleat, famous for its Safari Park and grand Elizabethan house and a great family favourite. Garden-lovers should not miss Stourhead, one of the finest examples of 18th century landscape design, dotted with classical temples. And then there’s the magnificent cathedral at Salisbury, set in a wonderfully preserved medieval close. You’ll also want to explore Wiltshire’s many pretty towns and villages – places like Cosham, with its Georgian houses in Cotswold stone, Bradford-on-Avon, Marlborough, famous for its school, and perfectly preserved Lacock with its famous abbey.
