Cornwall
North Cornwall
Wilder and more rugged than the south of the county, North Cornwall is a land of
tall headlands, sandy beaches and empty moorland – yours to explore from one of
our holiday cottages in North Cornwall. The busy resort of Newquay is a major attraction,
with its glorious beaches and fantastic conditions for surfers. Nearby Perranporth
also boasts some fantastic beaches, perfect for sun-lovers. You’ll find many more
lovely beaches, like those at Bude for example, waiting for you on one of our North
Cornwall cottage holidays. This part of Cornwall has become a bit of a mecca for
food lovers too. Rick Stein has put Padstow on the map and more chefs, including
Jamie Oliver, are joining him, attracted by the quality of the ingredients available
locally. Then there is St. Ives, long a haunt of artists drawn here by the wonderful
light and inspiring scenery. A cottage holiday in North Cornwall puts you in touch
with history from ancient celtic times to the days of the smugglers. Tintagel Castle,
rumoured to be the birthplace of King Arthur, sits high on a cliff and still has
a strange air of mystery about it.
South Cornwall
Wonderful scenery, a mild climate, sparkling blue seas and charming seaside villages
make South Cornwall a firm favourite for cottage holidays whatever the season. And
we have a fabulous choice of holiday cottages in South Cornwall from which to make
the most of this lovely part of the country. The Cornish Riviera takes in some of
South Cornwall’s most popular resorts and many of our holiday cottages in South
Cornwall are located nearby. Picturesque Fowey is a haven for sailors, while the
Roseland Peninsula is a noted beauty spot. Mevagissey, St. Mawes and St. Just are
all well worth a visit. Not to be missed is the Eden Project, a fascinating recreation
of different biospheres, featuring a wide variety of exotic plantlife. You should
also make time for a trip to atmospheric St. Michael’s Mount and on to Land’s End,
the most westerly point in England. The county town of Truro has a lovely cathedral
and some excellent shopping opportunities, while Penzance is a bustling resort,
famed for its warm weather and sub-tropical plants. And do make sure you sample
the pasties, saffron cake and clotted cream – all local delicacies, – during your
cottage holiday.

Derbyshire
For many of those staying in our holiday cottages in Derbyshire, the main appeal
of the county will be the unspoilt scenery of the Peak District, in the north of
the county. However, there are many other attractions waiting for you in this varied
region.
Derbyshire boasts a number of fine country houses, including Chatsworth House &
Gardens, one of our finest stately homes with a magnificent chapel, not to mention
an impressive water cascade and the towering plume of the Emperor Fountain. And
Hardwick Hall in Doe Lea is one of England’s finest Elizabethan houses, with an
amazing frontage of tall windows. Bolsover Castle, dating from the 12th Century,
is also well worth a visit during one of our Derby cottage holidays.
The city of Derby has some excellent shopping and the Cathedral is famous for its
impressive tower. If you’re in a ghoulish mood, pay a visit to Derby Gaol, a popular
visitor attraction based in the old dungeons of Derby County Gaol. Afterwards, why
not take a stroll in Derby Arboretum, England’s first public park, or take a look
around Pickford’s House, a marvellous example of 18th Century architecture.

Dorset
Our holiday cottages in Dorset offer you the perfect way to make the most of your
break in this pretty and largely unspoilt county, where there’s something for everyone
to enjoy. Dorset’s Jurassic Coast is a World Heritage Site, with dramatic coves
and stunning cliffs, topped by the South West Coast Path, which offers some wonderful
views. Here you’ll find characterful seaside towns like Swanage and Lyme Regis as
well as the wide sweep of Weymouth Beach. If you’re looking for somewhere more lively,
then Bournemouth won’t disappoint. This is one of Britain’s most popular resorts
and has attractions and entertainments in abundance. Nearby Poole is quieter, but
still has much to offer when you’re taking one of our Dorset cottage holidays. Try
and make the trip to Brownsea Island, a fabulous nature reserve here. Inland on
your cottage holiday in Dorset you can enjoy the rolling hills that are so characteristic
of the county and explore what has become known as “Thomas Hardy Country”. The county
town of Dorchester, with its High Street lined with 17th and 18th Century houses,
is little changed from Hardy’s day, while the pretty town of Shaftesbury has been
used as a location in countless films set in Olde England.

Gloucestershire (Cotswolds)
Our holiday cottages in Gloucestershire are ideally located for exploring the famous
Cotswolds and Gloucestershire is also blessed with the Forest of Dean, one of our
ancient woodlands. But there is much more to see in this county that is so rich
in history.
The city of Gloucester, for example, is where William the Conqueror ordered the
creation of the Domesday Book and the magnificent cathedral here has many connections
with the Norman kings of England. With our Gloucestershire cottage holidays, you’re
just a short drive away. Make sure Berkeley Castle is also on your itinerary. This
12th century castle has been owned by the Berkeley family since its foundation and
is now a fine stately home, packed with art treasures, tapestries, silver, porcelain
and furniture.
Then there’s elegant, genteel Cheltenham, with its grand terraces, much frequented
by the lords and ladies of Georgian times and now home to some very smart shops.
Or step back in time to Tewkesbury, where timbered buildings sit crowded on the
banks of the rivers Avon and Severn. And don’t miss bohemian Stroud, where you’ll
find a great selection of cafés and pubs.

Somerset
With its lovely beaches beautiful countryside and fascinating history, dating back
to the times of the Ancient Britons, Somerset makes a wonderful cottage holiday
destination. And the best way to experience the county’s many attractions is from
your base in one of our holiday cottages in Somerset. Bath has some of Britain’s
most majestic Georgian architecture, as well as the famous Roman Baths (not mention
great shopping). Then there’s Wells, England’s smallest city. Wandering around the
cathedral close, with its unspoilt medieval lanes is like taking a step back in
time. And for a real sense of mystery, there’s Glastonbury (home of the world-famous
music festival), supposedly the site of King Arthur’s mythical Avalon. All await
you on one of our Somerset cottage holidays. The county has more than its fair share
of beach resorts too. The Grand Pier at Weston-Super-Mare is superb, as is the wide
beach here, while Minehead and Burnham-on-Sea offer a choice of traditional seaside
pleasures. Meanwhile, for nature lovers there’s the wild landscape of Exmoor, and
the Mendip and Quantock Hills, both Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Cheddar
Gorge is truly stunning. Great for real Cheddar cheese too!

Warwickshire (Cotswolds)
Lying at the very heart of England, Warwickshire is best known as “Shakespeare’s
County”. And taking a break in our holiday cottages in Warwickshire is the perfect
way to explore the history of our greatest playwright. At Stratford-upon-Avon, you’ll
find Shakespeare’s birthplace, the famous Anne Hathaway’s Cottage and the Royal
Shakespeare Theatre, where you can enjoy an outstanding performance of one of the
great bard’s creations.
Our Warwickshire cottage holidays are also a great opportunity to visit the beautifully
preserved Warwick Castle. This is one of the UK’s top visitor attractions, and a
great family favourite, where key moments in the history of this great building
are re-created. The gardens here are also very impressive. If you’re into antiques,
then you’ll definitely want to take a stroll around Warwick with its many specialist
antique shops.
Then there’s Kenilworth Castle, England’s largest castle ruins, and a major historic
site. There’s a marvellous collection of paintings, china and furniture, not to
mention some great facilities for children, at Ragley Hall, a fine palladian house
near Alcester – another must see during your cottage holiday in Warwickshire. And
with its fine Georgian and Victorian buildings, Royal Leamington Spa offers a touch
of elegance as well as some top quality shopping.
